Custom Made-to-Measure Han-Juban Under-Kimono

Complete your Japanese or Samurai-inspired clothing with a custom-made han-juban, designed to be worn beneath a kimono, hakama-shita, or other traditional-style garment.

My han-juban are made from my own pattern and are designed more like a practical undergarment than a second full kimono. The front features clean, sharply angled panels that fold securely across the body while reducing unnecessary bulk beneath outer layers.

Each han-juban is cut to approximately knee length—or shorter, according to your preference—and made to your individual chest, waist, and shoulder-to-hem measurements. A small slit at the center back provides greater freedom of movement.

Unlike the sleeves of a traditional kimono, the sleeve cuffs remain completely open. The lower portion of the hand opening is not sewn closed, creating a lighter and less restrictive garment that is comfortable beneath additional layers.

To determine the length, measure from the top of your shoulder straight down to where you would like the bottom hem to fall. Han-juban traditionally fall around or just above the knee, although a shorter length may be requested.
