Description

Add the finishing touch to your Japanese-inspired attire with a custom-made Edo-period kataginu, the distinctive open-sided vest traditionally worn over a kimono and tucked into the hakama.

The kataginu was designed to give a samurai’s clothing a more formal, structured appearance. Its broad, pleated shoulders create the dramatic wing-like silhouette associated with Edo-period formal dress, making the garment instantly recognizable.

Kataginu are still worn today within parts of the martial arts community to give uniforms and ceremonial attire a more complete and dignified appearance. They are also well suited for cosplay, festivals, cultural dress, historical reenactment, theatrical productions, film, and other Japanese-inspired costuming.

Each kataginu is typically made from durable cotton twill or poplin fabric and is available in a wide variety of solid colors. The shoulder pleats are securely sewn into place so they maintain their shape while worn.

Kataginu size can be customized! Please select your chest size and length! To measure length simply measure from the top of your shoulder, and straight down to where you want the front panels to rest!

Each order includes one custom-made kataginu only.
